Words you lead with
Paste some copy to see which words dominate. If your main topic is not near the top, the page may not be about what you think it is.

Keyword density is simply how often a word appears compared with the total word count. It used to be gamed hard: people would repeat a phrase dozens of times to try to rank for it. Search engines caught up years ago, and stuffing a page now does more harm than good. So this tool is not here to help you hit a magic percentage, because there is not one.
What it is genuinely useful for is a sanity check. Paste a page and look at the top words. Do they describe what the page is meant to be about? Often they do not. A page meant to sell emergency plumbing turns out to lead with words like contact, form and hours, because that is what got written most. Seeing that is the value: it tells you the page reads as being about the wrong thing, and a few edits fix it.
Paste the visible words from your page, then read the top of the list. Your main topic and the natural variations of it should be near the top. If a single term is well above four or five percent, that is a sign of stuffing, and it will read awkwardly to a human long before it bothers a search engine. Ease off and write for the person.
If your topic is missing from the top entirely, the fix is not to cram the phrase in. It is to write more genuinely useful content about it: a clear heading, a paragraph that answers the real question, an example. That naturally raises the term without stuffing, and it gives the page the depth thin pages lack. Aim for copy a customer would actually want to read, and the density looks after itself.
A page ranks on far more than which words appear most. It ranks on whether it answers the search, how well it is structured with headings, whether it loads quickly, whether other pages link to it, and whether the site as a whole is trusted. Use this tool to catch pages that have drifted off topic, then check the wider picture with our SEO score checker, which looks at titles, headings, structured data, speed and more in one pass.
No. Chasing a target percentage is old advice that no longer helps and can hurt. Write naturally for the reader; use this tool only to check the page leads with the right topic.
It counts them for the total but leaves common filler words out of the ranked list, so what you see are the words that actually carry meaning on the page.
It can. Search engines treat obvious stuffing as a spam signal. If one term is far above the rest and the copy reads oddly, dial it back.
The visible text. Copy the words a visitor reads, not the code. That is what search engines weigh and what this tool is built to analyse.
